Integrative Health Coach

FAQs

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about integrative health coaching with Leigh Ann.

What is integrative health coaching (IHC)? IHC is a dynamic partnership between a coach and client in which the client envisions her optimal well-being and works with the coach to define and achieve specific, measurable goals for success. The journey begins with a creative exploration of both current and desired states on the Wheel of Health. Through a collaborative process, the client develops a personalized health plan that represents her ideal vision of health. The plan is then broken down into a series of action steps that help the client to achieve and sustain success.

  · How can coaching help me? Coaching enlists the support and aid of a partner (the coach) who holds you accountable to your vision and your plan. The coaching process can help you:

  • Develop clarity around your values and vision.
  • Cultivate self-awareness and discovery.
  • Identify and harness strengths.
  • Build new competencies.
  • Recognize and overcome barriers to change.
  • Strengthen your commitment to achieving your goals.
  • Create strategies for navigating and sustaining change.
  • Gain confidence in decision-making.
What can I expect from you as my coach? You can expect me to be a fully present partner on your journey. This means:
  • Listening to what you say - and what you don't say.
  • Asking powerful questions that require self-exploration.
  • Giving honest feedback.
  • Challenging you on limiting behaviors and belief systems through inquiry.
  • Holding you accountable.
  • Asking reorienting questions to shift perspectives and open possibilities.
  • Bringing mindful awareness into our work together.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.*
  • Celebrating your successes.

What do you expect of a client? I expect that clients will show up for their coaching sessions and their lives. This translates to preparing for sessions in advance by completing the coaching prep form, being honest with themselves and with me, committing to the process, being willing to take risks, and celebrating the successes. Just as the coach of a team cannot play the game for her players, I cannot enact your personalized health plan for you. You must show up for you - and I will be by your side as you take steps toward achieving your goals.

How long does coaching last? Research shows that lasting behavior change takes a minimum of three months to achieve. Thus, your initial commitment to the process will be three months. After that, you will renew on a month-to-month basis. A typical coaching client achieves one or two focused goals within six months meeting twice per month. More extensive goals may require coaching for a year or more.

  · Why should I hire you? I have dedicated my career to helping women realize their optimal health and well-being whether through my research or outreach activities. I have worked with women of all ages and addressed a variety of health and wellness issues. Read more about my background and expertise.

How does coaching differ from psychotherapy? Unlike psychotherapy, coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health problems. Rather, coaching is a solution-focused approach where coaches partner with clients helping them to set and achieve the outcomes they desire.

What areas of health have you addressed in coaching? I have partnered with women to address a wide variety of health issues, including general health and well-being enhancement, cancer survivorship, post-organ transplantation wellness, weight loss, physical fitness, stress reduction, professional development, interpersonal relationships, balancing family and work, and bringing mindful awareness practice into daily life. While many women initially seek coaching to address their physical or mental health, the Wheel of Health assessment often directs them to other areas in their lives as well.

Where do you coach clients? Coaching is often done on the phone, and I coach the majority of my clients this way. However, if you live in the North Carolina Research Triangle area, I'm happy to discuss a mutually convenient place to meet within a 20-minute drive of my home in Durham.

What are your fees? I offer clients a variety of options to address their health and well-being. Please see the individual coaching page for more information on packages and pricing.

How do I know that you are the right coach for me? Coaching is a very personal relationship and not every coach will suit every client. That's why I - and most - coaches offer a complementary 20-minute sample session so we can mutually determine if we are a good fit for one another. I encourage all of my potential clients to talk to two or three coaches so they can make the best decision for themselves. If you would like to schedule a sample session, please contact me

What if I have other questions? I'm happy to discuss your coaching needs and answer any questions or concerns you may have. I look forward to the opportunity to partner with you as you envision and achieve the optimal health and well-being you desire and deserve.
